چکیده

Preface MODELS, METHODS, AND MEASUREMENT Dreams of mathematical laws in psychology have persisted for well over a century in the fields of perception and psychophysics. In modern times, mathematical models have been prominent in judgment–decision and in learning. Mathematical models have also been proposed in social– personality, including integration models for attitudes (Chapter 7) and equity models in deserving theory (Chapter 2). To realize these dreams required radical conceptual reorientation—a shift from structure of the external world to structures of the internal world (The Dual Worlds: Internal and External in Chapter 7). Almost miraculously, the internal world of thought and action follows simple mathematical integration laws in most areas of human psychology. These empirical laws are the foundation of Information Integration Theory. The long-standing obstacle of true psychological measurement was central in establishing these psychological laws. Conceptual resolution was obtained by making the laws themselves the base and frame for measurement. Empirical resolution was obtained with methods discussed in this chapter. These empirical laws of information integration, established by many investigators in many countries, are the foundation of psychological measurement theory. Popular pitfalls invalidate not a few publlications. Among these are comparing relative importance of different variables, meaninglessness of much “statistical interaction,” illusion of “statistical control,” and meretricious ρ values (Faulty Methods and Measurement Pitfalls). Methodological issues that arise in planning and interpreting experiments are also discussed, especially extrastatistical inference.

Efficiency measurement of health care organizations: What models are used?

Background: Literature abounds with various techniques for efficiency measurement of health care organizations (HCOs), which should be used cautiously and appropriately. The present study aimed at discovering the rules regulating the interplay among the number of inputs, outputs, and decision- making units (DMUs) and identifying all methods used for the measurement of Iranian HCOs and criticall...

Efficiency evaluation of wheat farming: a network data envelopment analysis approach

Traditional data envelopment analysis (DEA) models deal with measurement of relative efficiency of decision making units (DMUs) in which multiple-inputs consumed to produce multiple-outputs. One of the drawbacks of these models is neglecting internal processes of each system, which may have intermediate products and/or independent inputs and/or outputs. In this paper some methods which are usab...

Stochastic Restricted Two-Parameter Estimator in Linear Mixed Measurement Error Models

In this study, the stochastic restricted and unrestricted two-parameter estimators of fixed and random effects are investigated in the linear mixed measurement error models. For this purpose, the asymptotic properties and then the comparisons under the criterion of mean squared error matrix (MSEM) are derived. Furthermore, the proposed methods are used for estimating the biasing parameters. Fin...

Detection of Outliers and Influential Observations in Linear Ridge Measurement Error Models with Stochastic Linear Restrictions

The aim of this paper is to propose some diagnostic methods in linear ridge measurement error models with stochastic linear restrictions using the corrected likelihood. Based on the bias-corrected estimation of model parameters, diagnostic measures are developed to identify outlying and influential observations. In addition, we derive the corrected score test statistic for outliers detection ba...
